JP 2018 Koyo Kinki

Rainbow and rolling clouds over Biwako

The rainbow lasted for an hour.  First spotted it outside Otsu station while waiting for hotel shuttle bus. It was still around after checking into room.

Higashi-Honganji  (東本願寺)

dropped by before heading to Biwako onsen hotel. Spotted a crane on roof, maybe it was the same crane I saw on its moat 2 years ago 💡

Kawakyu

Stayed in this luxurious onsen resort hotel while visiting Shirahama.  Given all are suite rooms we picked a western-style suite in 90 sqm.  Lavishly decorated, it has meticulous facilities, while meals were prepared from top food sources from Spain, Hokkaido and elsewhere in Japan.

JP 2013 Feb Shirahama onsen

Shirahama onsen

Picked this onsen hotel as it has rooms in modern style and a balcony with seaview. Though there was a tub, it’s not using onsen but only hot water as stated on its website (in Japanese), so we did not even bother. The public rotenburo was spacious, sea-facing and very nice, though it took a bit of walk downhill.

Kaiseki dinner was nice though whale in sashimi (“Kujira”) was served, as in most other ryokans in southern Wakayama. We deliberately did NOT touch it at all.
