JP 2014 Dec Izu (Day 3)

Day 3 drive

headed north into the mountains to visit the below before returning car. Stopped by Nirayama to have sushi lunch and also the strawberry farm with self-picking. However, the strawberries were less tasty than our first visit in Mar 2005 and thus we gave it a pass.

  • Izu-Kawazu 7 waterfall (河津七滝)

  • Izu-Nirayama
  • return car in Mishima

  1. I lived in Shizuoka-ken 1991-93 and often drove to the Izu Pensinsula so this brings back great memories. I mostly visited the area from Shuzenji to Shimoda to Matsuzaki to Heda to which was much less developed than the eastern coast. Some great places to visit included Heda Bay, especially on a clear day when there was a lot of snow on Fujisan, and the Tago Coast area (Futo?) a little south of Toi. I also really liked Yumigahama (I once slept on the beach there and had to move during the night when the tide came in) and the walk near Irozaki.

    1. Hi Steve,
Thank you for sharing your experiences in West Izu, which we happened to visit less than 1 month ago and stayed overnight in onsen hotel in Heda Bay. Had a great view of Mt Fuji along the Toi coastline.
I’d post these visits in the coming week. So stay posted.
      Have a nice weekend.
      Cheers,
      DLi
